This page is meant to be the first picture gallery that you view. The 5 pictures here will give you an idea of how the site is trying to illustrate (and celebrate) the variability that exists in penile erections. To view the pictures simply click on a thumbnail and a (much) larger version of the photo will open in another window. The text will also appear in that window. Use your browser's back button to return to the thumbnail page. In other, more recently created galleries you won't have to use the browser's back button.

This erection is about 5.75 inches long. (I am not giving circumference data on this site because I think it is hard to interpret.) This erection has a slight humpback curve (an n-curve) and its angle is just below horizontal. I begin with this photo to emphasize that not all erections point up and that not all are straight as an arrow.  The owner of this erection is 57 years old, height 6 ft., weight 165 lbs.

Here is an erection that measures almost 9 inches in length and has a distinctively low angle and an n-curve.  So, there...I've gone ahead and put a really big one here at the beginning so no one will have to wonder if there will be big boys in this site. The answer is yes, but not many - because there aren't many in the real world. This male is 33 years old, 5 ft. 11 in., 200 lbs.
Even though the photo of this erection makes it look like it points down a little, it is actually about horizontal. It is 4.25 inches long. This probably seems rather short to people who are used to looking at erections on the web or in pornography - but it's not!  There are many, many erections of this length and shorter.  We don't know how many because men with smaller penises typically do not volunteer to participate in sex research studies. This 27-year-old is a large man:  6 ft. 3 in., 250 lbs.
This is the first erection on this site that points above horizontal.  According to our best estimates, about 65% of erections are above horizontal when the man is standing.  I suspect this is the direction most people think an erection "ought" to point. But let me assure you there is no correct angle, they point at every angle from straight down to straight up. This 5.5 inch erection has no curve at all and belongs to a 36-year-old, 5 ft. 9 in., 120 lbs.
Here's an erection that is very straight and has a definitely high angle.  If it were the hand on a clock it would point to about 1:30.  In the photo research only about 20% of erections were this high or higher.  And this erection is nearly 7 inches in length, which means that only about 9% of erections were longer than this.  (And if we were able to get a more accurate sample, the percent would probably be even smaller.)  So, when you see a hard penis that looks something like this one, be aware that it is not what the great majority of erections look like.  Just as when you see a beautiful face on a magazine cover, think "It's great that some people look like that - but most of us don't."  The erection owner is age 21 years, 5 ft. 10 in., 145 lbs.
